First Time at Our Dental Office? Here’s What to Expect

Are you new to St Louis Park, a neighboring community, or simply looking for a fresh start for your smile? Dentistry by Brian Weber loves meeting new patients. Whether you are here for a check-up, second opinion, or specialized care, you can expect a positive dental experience. Dr. Brian Weber and his team combine compassionate care with advanced technology to provide the highest quality dental care.

What can I expect as a new patient?

First-time dental visits can be intimidating, but not in our office. We are dedicated to helping you feel welcome from your first visit and beyond. Part of making your first-time visit seamless is explaining what you can expect. We’ll walk you through each step of your appointment to ensure you feel confident and informed about your care.

Here’s what you can expect during your first dental visit.

  • Medical/dental history: We’ll review your medical and dental history to personalize your dental care. Please be as open as possible—our goal isn’t to judge, but to provide the best treatment for your unique needs.
  • Comprehensive exam: Our dental team will examine your mouth to identify signs of gum disease, cavities, failing dental work, etc. We utilize a series of digital photos that create a baseline and point of reference to be used during the treatment planning process. The latest VELscope technology is used to detect oral cancer at its earliest stage. We utilize Diagnodent to evaluate for early and hidden cavities more objectively. Our dental check-ups are not just a cursory look at your teeth and gums. We are committed to ensuring we don’t leave anything to chance. Our new patients often ask us, “Why didn’t my last dentist do this?”.
  • Dental X-rays: Not all dental issues occur at the surface. We use dental X-rays to unearth dental problems beneath the gum line. X-rays can detect bone loss, interdental decay, infections, impacted teeth, and other issues beyond the naked eye’s reach. Dental X-rays during your first visit help set a baseline to monitor your oral health over time. When necessary, we can offer our patients 3D X-rays (CBCT) for better diagnostic capabilities, treatment planning, and as a guide for surgical accuracy.
  • Treatment planning: We offer a unique treatment planning process that fully involves the patient in all aspects of the decision-making process. Our goal is to identify current and potential future problems; to provide preventative yet necessary care; to preserve natural tooth structure and surrounding tissue; and to devise a master plan to suit our patients’ needs as far out into the future as possible. Treatment sequencing is important so that ideal care is delivered over as little or as much time as the patient sees fit, versus a fragmented approach, which is typical due to insurance restrictions. This results in healthier teeth, gums, and bone, fewer appointments, less morbidity, more comfort, and greater financial savings. Rest assured, whether you have minor or significant issues, we’ll help maintain and restore your optimal oral health.
  • Dental cleaning: If you don’t have significant issues, we’ll professionally clean your teeth to remove built-up plaque and tartar. We also polish your teeth to leave you with that fresh-from-the-dentist feeling.
